OUR STORY

Established in 2021, Selective Fans emerged as a female-owned venture, nurtured with the backing of Selective Lighting – a longstanding family business specialising in lighting and fireplaces for more than 40 years.

With a wealth of experience gained through decades of exploration, product discovery, and the importation of finely crafted interior elements, the baton has been passed to the next generation, poised to carry the legacy forward and adapt it for contemporary times.

Our entry into the ceiling fan space marked a distinctive new chapter, setting us apart by delivering high-quality, custom-designed fans at exceptionally reasonable prices.

Inspired by innovators and dreamers, our designs reflect that same spirit  – meticulously handcrafted, tailored to their environment, and radiating timeless, casual elegance.

MEET THE OWNER

Selective Fans was founded by Karla Muller, a project manager with a strong background in property development and a sharp eye for design.

Her career began with hands-on experience flipping houses alongside her husband – overseeing timelines, budgets, and finishes while developing a growing interest in interiors. What started as a practical role evolved into a passion for sourcing well-designed, functional products that elevate everyday living.

Backed by her family’s established business, Selective Lighting – known for supplying high-quality lighting and fireplaces for over 40 years – Karla launched Selective Fans in 2021 as a natural next step. Her goal: to offer ceiling fans that combine clean aesthetics, lasting performance, and fair pricing.

Based in Cape Town, Karla brings a distinctly local point of view to the brand, with a design philosophy influenced by South Africa’s landscapes, architecture, and lifestyle. Every product is thoughtfully chosen to balance form and function – no unnecessary extras, just considered choices made for real homes and real people.
